Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur today appealed to people of Punjab to vote for the Bharatiya Janata Party to ensure formation of a ‘double-engine’ government in the state.
Addressing public meetings in Mukerian, Garhshankar, Anandpur Sahib and Zirakpur in support of the party candidates, Thakur said, Himachal Pradesh considers Punjab like an “elder brother”. HE said, the two states even after having separated have strong bonding with each other.
Speaking in Mukerian in support of the party candidate Jangi Lal Mahajan, the Himachal CM said the Congress government had failed on all fronts, particularly the law and order and economic development. He said, Punjab needed a BJP government, which alone can bring peace and order here.
At Garhshankar, while speaking in support of the party candidate Nimisha Mehta, Thakur said, people of Punjab should see how the BJP governments work in Himachal Pradesh and Haryana. HE said, despite HP being a hill state, there was a strong network of roads. He said he was surprised to see how backward the Garhshankar area looked in terms of development.
Addressing a well-attended public meeting at Anadnpur Sahib in support of the party candidate Dr Parminder Sharma, Thakur said, while Himachal was known as the Dev-Bhoomi, Punjab was the land of Gurus. HE said, work on Anandpur Sahib-Naina Devi ropeway will start soon and it will benefit people of Punjab as they can get easy access to the holy shrine of Naina Devi.
The Himachal CM also addressed a public meeting at Zirakpur in support of the Dera Bassi party candidate Sanjeev Khanna. He appealed to people to vote for peace and development. He said, Punjab needed a government that will work in coordination with the central government and not take confrontation.
Referring to the Ferozepur incident on January 5, when Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s cavalcade could not reach the rally venue because of the blockade, Thakur said, this was the deliberate and mischievous attempt by the Congress government to deny Punjab the benefit of projects worth Rs 43,000 crores that PM was to announce. That is why Punjab needs the government that will work in coordination and not confrontation with the central government.
