Haryana establishes Milkha Singh Adventure Club

To promote youth activities in Haryana, Milkha Singh Adventure Club has been established so that along with sports, youth can excel in other activities as well. Haryana is geared up for the National Youth Festival to be held in Puducherry from January 12 to 16, 2022.

This information was shared by the Minister of State for Sports and Youth Affairs, Sh. Sandeep Singh, during the ongoing winter session of the Vidhan Sabha, held here today, while responding to a question asked by MLA Sh. Varun Chaudhary about the separation of the Sports and Youth Affairs Department.

He also apprised the House that through 5000 youth clubs, various competitions including essay writing, poetry, short story, drama dance are being organized in the state. The youth of the state are already leading in sports, now they are shining in youth festivals at the national level as well. So far 53 youth have received National Youth Award.

The Minister said that sports and youth affairs are interlinked. If they are separated, then their importance will end. Therefore they cannot be separated, he added.

In the Government of India also these two departments are together. He said that the youth clubs are given prize money ranging from Rs 20,000 to 75,000 for various competitions like divisional, district and state level.

In this, cash rewards of Rs. 20,000 is given to the best district youth every year, Rs. 30,000 to the best district youth club, Rs. 40,000 to the best state youth and likewise a cash prize of Rs. 75,000 is given to the best state youth club. It is given for outstanding social work done during the last three years, informed the Minister.

Besides this, the National Youth Award is given every year by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Government of India to young men and women for their outstanding work in the field of national development and social service. Its main objective is to motivate the youth to participate in such competitions, he added.

The Minister further informed that under the Milkha Singh Adventure Sports Club, the youth would be provided with an opportunity to participate in adventure sports like trekking, mountaineering, rock-climbing, skiing, river rafting, water sports and paragliding.

He said that to create a generation of young Indians ready to face the challenges of the future and achieve their full potential, the youth must be in good health and choose a healthy and balanced lifestyle.

Recognizing this, the Sports and Youth Affairs Department, Haryana has established 4977 youth clubs in 6560 villages of the state, added Sh. Sandeep Singh.

He apprised the House that the Department of Sports and Youth Affairs, Haryana has participated in every National Youth Festival organized by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Government of India.

Haryana has secured the first position 5 times and second place seven times out of 24 National Youth Festivals organized so far. The state also secured the second position in the 21st National Youth Festival organized by Haryana from January 12 to 16, 2017 at Rohtak, added Sh. Sandeep Singh.
