Harsimrat Badal displays pics of Kisan Andolan martyrs in Parliament to nail NDA lie

Chandigarh, August 10, 2021 (Yes Punjab News)
Former union minister Harsimrat Kaur Badal today displayed the pictures of farmers who were martyred in the course of the ongoing Kisan Andolan in parliament to nail the lie of the centre even as she asserted the NDA would be evicted in 2024 to pave the way for a pro-Kisan government.

The Bathinda MP first raised the issue of farmers who laid down their lives during the Kisan Andolan by holding up their pictures outside parliament along with other SAD-BSP MPs while waving banners saying ‘kendra sarkar kar le pehchan, yeh hain hamara shaheed kisan’.

Later raising the same issue in parliament while rising to speak on the 127th amendment bill, Mrs Badal said she had brought the pictures of the farmers to parliament because Agriculture minister Narendra Singh Tomar had questioned their very existence by stating that the government did not have data of deaths during the Kisan Andolan. She demanded the government should reach out to the affected families and provide succor to them instead of questioning their existence.

The SAD leader also hit out at the Congress party for adopting double standards by raising the issue of farmers outside parliament but insisting that only the Pegasus spying issue be taken up for discussion in the House. She said the Congress party should have also demanded a discussion on the need to repeal the farm laws.

Speaking about the union government, Mrs Badal said it was unfortunate that there was a dictatorship within the government and only those issues were taken up for discussion in parliament towards which the ruling party was favourable.

Asking the centre not to assume such an attitude, Mrs Badal said “you should adopt a good model which assures prosperity to farmers instead of wanting to demolish it”. She also asked the centre to make its slogan ‘sab ka saath, sab ka vishwas’ a reality by supporting the cause of agitating farmers as well as winning over their trust.

She also raised the issue of increasing petrol and diesel rates and the fact that instead of doubling farm income by 2022 as promised, the NDA government had doubled inflation.

Speaking about the 127 Amendment, she said the SAD supported it as it was a votary for giving more powers to the State and strengthening the federal structure of the country.

She said this was best exemplified by the struggle of former chief minister Parkash Singh Badal who remained in prison for eighteen years for vouching this demand. She said the amendment, which sought to restore the power of States to identify backward castes, would be a boon for the backwards and would ensure their reservation both in educational institutions as well as government jobs.

Meanwhile speaking outside parliament, Mrs Badal said the fight against the farm laws would continue till they were not repealed. She said if the NDA government did not repeal the farm laws it would have to go and make way for a pro-Kisan government.

She said the centre could suppress the voice of farmers both inside and outside parliament but it couldn’t suppress the voice of the annadaata in the hearts and minds of the people.
