Former Congress MLA Harbans Kaur Dullo joins AAP; to contest from Fatehgarh Sahib

Jalandhar, April 16, 2019 (Yes Punjab News)

Former Congress MLA and wife of former Punjab unit Congress President and Rajya Sabha Member, Shamsher Singh Dullo, Harbans Kaur Dullo, on Tuesday formally joined the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) in the presence of senior leaders of the party. The party leadership nominated Harbans Kaur Dullo its Fatehgarh candidate for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.

On the occasion, young and energetic Trinmool Congress leader Taranjit Singh Sunny, who contested the 2017 Assembly elections on the party ticket from Jalandhar (Central) also joined the Aam Aadmi Party with his 100 active members of the TMC.

Both Harbans Kaur Dullo and Taranjit Singh Sunny formally joined the party at a simple ceremony organized by the party at Jalandhar Press Club here by Punjab unit Campaign Committee chief and Sunam MLA Aman Arora.

Others who were in attendance were MLA and Punjab’s Kisan wing chief, Kultar Singh Sandhwan, MLA and NRI wing president Jai Kishan Rori, Lok Sabha candidate from Jalandhar, Justice (Retd) Jora Singh, Party’s earlier announced nominee from Fatehgarh Sahib, Baljinder Singh Chonda, area campaign committee in charge, Navdeep Singh Sangha, Jalandhar district president, Dr Shiv Kumar Mali and area vice-president, Dr Sanjiv Sharma.

Addressing media persons on the occasion, Arora said that the Dullo family had struggled very hard to guard the rights of the ‘dalits’, the poor and the downtrodden by raising its voice against the high and the mighty. He said with a farsighted leader like Harbans Kaur Dullo joining the AAP would, on the one hand help wrest Fatehgarh seat and offer an edge to the party candidates in Punjab on the other.

Arora said that the sacrifice made by Chonda by pulling out of the race in favour of Harbans Kaur Dullo was inspiring and could not be forgotton. He said other parties should learn to make sacrifices of this kind, he said.

On the occasion, Aman Arora and Kultar Singh Sandhwan announced the appointment of Baljinder Singh Chonda and senior leader from Amritsar Inderbir Singh Nijjer as Punjab unit Core Committee members.

Answering to question pulling out like SAD (Taksali) nominee did in Khadoor Sahib in favour of Bibi Paramjit Kaur Khalra, Harbans Kaur Dullo said that Sardar Jaswant Singh fought for the protection of human rights and sacrificed his life, saying “the decision to join the AAP was taken after consulting her husband and former Congress chief, Sardar Shamsher Singh Dullo. We hold Bibi Khalra in high esteem but some vested interests were trying to draw political mileage out of the sacrifices the family had made. Where were they when her husband was killed?’

Arora made it clear that Bibi Khalra was contesting on other party’s ticket whereas they had fielded a young candidate and youth wing president of the party Manjinder Singh Sidhu, stating that the AAP would also set up a political mechanism to raise its voice against human rights violation.
