FLO for breaking down barriers, more opportunities for women in corporate boardrooms, entrepreneurial world

FICCI ladies Organisation (FLO), the apex body of business women in the country has stressed on the need of breaking down barriers and opening more doors of opportunity for women in corporate board rooms having at least one independent women director to create a more balanced and inclusive business environment in India.

“During 2013- 2022, India made significant and rapid progress in increasing women representation on boards from 6% in 2013 to 18% in 2022. By empowering women to take on leadership roles in the corporate sector, the initiative aims to create a more balanced and inclusive business environment in India. The Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) has also mandated gender diversity disclosures under its Business Responsibility Reporting requirements. Appointment of at least one independent woman director is also mandatory now.” Said Ms Sudha Shivkumar, National President , FICCI Ladies Organisation (FLO) while speaking at the ‘workshop on Women in Corporate Boards’ organised by FLO.

“Gender diversity in corporate boards isn’t just a matter of social justice; it’s also a smart business strategy. It fosters better decision-making, drives innovation, and enhances a company’s reputation, ultimately leading to improved financial performance and sustainability.” Said Ms Shivkumar.

“To further promote women directors in corporate boards FLO has signed an MoU with Grant Thornton Bharat LLP, a global services firm to Facilitate placing the candidates as per details/resumes given by FICCI Ladies Organizsation as Independent Directors in companies or NGOs and Provide training/ creation of resume to candidates if required on separate commercial terms with the candidate, with consent of candidate” said Ms Shivkumar.

Dr. S. Raghunath, Professor of Strategy, Indian Institute of Management Bangalore. And Prof. Chetan Subramanian, RBI Chair Professor in Economics, Indian Institute of Management Bangalore were the main speakers at the workshop . Those present on the occasion included uguna Ravichandran, a Governing Body Member the National Head of the FWD Initiative and Mr Rahul Kumar, Director & Partner Grant Thornton Bharat LLP.
