CM Mann fully capable and ready to deal with flood situation: Dr. Balbir Singh

State Health and Family Welfare Minister Mr. Balbir Singh has said that the health department is fully prepared to deal with the flood situation in the state and the teams of the health department are working with their full capacity in the flood affected areas.

While reviewing the preparations made by the Health Department keeping the situation of floods in the state at Panchayat Bhawan of Gurdaspur today, Health Minister Mr. Balbir Singh said that under the able leadership of Chief Minister Punjab Mr. Bhagwant Mann, the Health Department is fully capable and ready to deal with the situation of floods.

He said that exemplary work is being done by the teams of the health department during the flood in some parts of Malwa and Doaba region. He said that the health department has all the arrangements in terms of health services including a team of expert doctors, medicines and ambulances.

Seeing the potential danger of floods in Gurdaspur district, Health Minister Mr. Balbir Singh asked the Health Department along with other departments to be vigilant and prepared. He said that if there is water in an area, arrangements should be made to drain it out. He said that the cooperation of social service organizations working in the health sector along with IMA, private doctors, nursing institutions should also be taken in the rescue operations from the health side during floods.

Health Minister Mr. Balbir Singh said that while there is a risk of loss of life and property during the flood, there is also a risk of spreading various diseases even after the flood. He said that the health department officials should also pay special attention to prevent diseases caused by floods and rainwater. Apart from this, he also gave instructions to collect drinking water samples from different parts of the district. He said that drinking water should be chlorinated to the people.

Health Minister Mr. Balbir Singh further said that the Health Department is starting a ‘Dengue Te War’ campaign very soon, under which every Friday will be observed as a dry day to eliminate dengue larvae.

He said that under a joint campaign by the health department and the local body department, dengue larvae should be checked from house to house so that the spread of dengue and malaria diseases can be prevented. He said that the health department is fully prepared to deal with the current rainy season and any possible threat of floods.

Earlier Deputy Commissioner Dr. Himanshu Agarwal shared information about the flood prevention arrangements made by the district administration. The Deputy Commissioner said that there was a threat of floods due to the rise in the water level in the Ravi river twice during the last 2 weeks, but the district administration has handled it well with its vigilance and arrangements.

He said that the entire team of the district administration is fully prepared to face any threat of floods. Meanwhile, Civil Surgeon Dr. Harbhajan Ram also shared detailed information about the arrangements made by the health department.

On this occasion Deputy Commissioner Dr. Himanshu Aggarwal, SSP Batala Madam Ashwani Gotyal, Punjab Health Systems Corporation Chairman Mr. Raman Bahl, eminent public leader Mr. Shamsher Singh, Chairman Nagar Improvement Trust Mr. Naresh Goyal, Additional Deputy Commissioner (G) Mr. Subhash Chandra, Additional Deputy Commissioner (Development) Mr. Ravinderpal Singh Sandhu, All SDMs, District Officers of various departments and social service organizations working in the health sector and IMA. Representatives were also present.
