Eminent Agricultural Scientist, Dr. Rajbir Singh, has been awarded with “Rafi Ahmed Kidwai Award for Outstanding Research in Agricultural Sciences-2021” of ICAR. The award was conferred by Hon’ble Agriculture Minister of India Sh. Narendra Singh Tomar on the eve of ICAR’s 94th Foundation Day celebration today at National Agricultural Science Complex, New Delhi.
The award carries a cash prize of Rs. 5.00 lakh in addition to the Memento, Certificate & Citation.
Dr. Singh is currently the Director of ICAR’s Agricultural Technology Application Research Institute (ATARI), Ludhiana. He has been engaged in field based action research addressing major issues like crop residue burning, irrigation water resource conservation, crop nutrient management, pest & disease outbreaks in major crops, impact of climate change and environmental degradation etc.
He is a prominent figure in popularizing climate smart agriculture in Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand and Jammu & Kashmir through Krishi Vigyna Kendras (KVKs). Dr. Singh has over 26 years of experience in research management and coordination and has a clear understanding of challenges, opportunities and research priorities of the region.
He has worked with a multi-disciplinary team of scientists and his scientific efforts in natural resource management has led to impact at scale benefiting large number of small holder men and women farmers. He has handled more than 15 projects sponsored by different agencies including DST, DAC, ICAR.
Dr. Singh has more than 100 research papers published in referred international and national journals (Citation score in Google scholar: 4899) with an H-Index of 30. He has five books and several technical bulletins and popular articles to his credit. He has visited Brazil, Germany, Israel, Nepal, Poland, Thailand and USA for working in many advance laboratories for research work.
This award is just one feather in the cap among many for his outstanding research work. He has been earlier bestowed with many prestigious awards like Nanaji Deshmukh ICAR Award for Outstanding Team Research in Agricultural sciences (2019), Swami Sahajanand Saraswati Outstanding Scientist Award of ICAR (2016), Fellow of National Academy of Agricultural Sciences (2022), Fellow of Indian Society of Agronomy (2014) and Fellow of Horticultural Society of India (2016).
