Capt Govt harassing farmers for electricity at behest of Modi: Kultar Singh Sandhwan

Bathinda, June 26, 2021 (Yes Punjab News)
Lashing out at the Captain Amarinder Singh-led Congress government for not providing 8-hours power supply to the tubewells for paddy sowing in Punjab; the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leveled allegations stating that at the behest of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Captain Amarinder Singh was harassing the farmers for electricity.

Addressing the media during a press conference held here on Saturday, AAP MLA and Kisan Wing state president Kultar Singh Sandhwan said that under a well thought out conspiracy, the farmers were being provided only 4-hours power instead of 8-hours uninterrupted power supply for agriculture.

“Even canal water supply is being cut off. Attempts to appease Modi by embarrassing the farmers sitting at the Delhi borders, fighting against the agricultural laws, have also been exposed” he added.

Sandhwan said that the police brutality inflicted on the farmers on the Mohali-Chandigarh border on Saturday had sealed the fact that Captain Amarinder Singh can go to any lengths to please his boss Modi. He strongly condemned the police crackdown on the farmers who were going to submit a memorandum against the farm laws, to the Governor of Punjab.

Sandhwan said that the Captain government had been in power in the state for the last four and half years and like the Badals; the Congress had been claiming surplus power, but had also failed to provide eight hours power supply for paddy sowing. He said that the farmers were forced to cultivate paddy using expensive diesel.

“Captain Amarinder Singh is now releasing Rs 500 crore for management of power, out of fear of the farmers’ wrath. If the intention was clear, the government should have made arrangements for power procurement and eight hours uninterrupted supply in the month of May,” he added.

The AAP leader further said that instead of burdening the people due to high cost of electricity and to improve the power system, the Captain government should immediately pay the outstanding bills of Rs 2200 crore to the power corporations.

Sandhwan said that before the 2017 elections, Captain Amarinder Singh had promised the people that the power deals made by the Badal government with the private companies would be scrutinised and a white paper on the agreements would be issued.

“It has been four and a half years since Captain Amarinder Singh became the Chief Minister, but no power deals have been canceled and no white paper has been issued,” he said.

Sandhwan said that not only the farmers, but the people from all walks of life were suffering due to the high cost of electricity. He alleged that Captain and the Badals pretended to have surplus power and paid Rs 5400 crore to the companies without purchasing power, which needs a high level investigation.

Sandhwan demanded that the Captain government should stop harassing the farmers and provide 8-hours uninterrupted power supply for paddy sowing. On the occasion, party leaders Neel Garg, Gurjant Singh Sibia, Rakesh Puri, Anil Thakur, Amardeep Singh Rajan, Sukhbir Singh Brar, Baldev Singh, Amrit Aggarwal, Sandeep Gupta, Baljit Bali, Bhupinder Bansal, Balkar Singh Bhokra among others were present.
