Congress Rajya Sabha MP and former PPCC president Partap Singh Bajwa has reacted sharply on the orders of withdrawal of his security by the state government.
Bajwa issued a press release today saying that “Security is given to a person for protection of his life and should not be a tool to browbeat him into submission. In any case, this trick will not work on me.”
His reaction on the issue is as follows:
As regards the issue of threat perception, as per the Punjab Government, if my threat perception is zero, is the Punjab government now trying to state that they had given me Punjab Police security without any threat perception? My father had been martyred in the fight against terrorism in the state, I had survived a bomb attack in the year 1990 and I had been given security continuously for decades due to high threat perception and suddenly my threat perception is zero and hence, the state police security given to me is being withdrawn.
What a mockery of the police department by its own officers! I was not aware that Punjab Police had become so spineless that they would withdraw the security to a person having a genuine threat perception only because he has spoken against their political boss.
I would also like to state that the police department is not expected to act on the whims and fancies of the political boss which they have chosen to do in my case. Granting security involves intelligence inputs from ADGP (Intelligence) as well as consent of ADGP (Security) and finally of the DGP.
Obviously, all these three officers have intentionally chosen to prepare a fabricated input showing my threat perception as zero. I would like to state that preparing false intelligence input and subsequently acting upon it while knowing that the same is false, is evidently a violation of service law and also a punishable offence.
I had spoken openly against the failure of the administration in the state and the improper functioning of the Chief Minister. Obviously, Captain Amarinder Singh in his usual manner had to resort to hitting below the belt by withdrawing my security and exposing my whole family to risk.
A very strange reference has been made to Z Category Security granted by the Central Government to me. Obviously, if the Central Government has granted me Z Category Security, it clearly shows the actual threat perception which I have. Moreover, the security of Z Category was given to me by Central Government in the year 2013 in addition to the security provided to me by Punjab Police.
At that point of time the security was provided by the Congress government at the Centre. This security was withdrawn in July, 2019 and restored in March, 2020, on the recommendation of Sh. Ghulam Nabi Azad.
Therefore, the allegation of procuring personal Security directly from Home Minister is contrary to facts and the state government before making any public statement or any such important decision should at least verify the facts.
I would also like to state that a very strange reason has been given that the granting of security by Central Government shows lack of faith in the state security. I would like to remind Captain Amarinder Singh and his police officials that even the former Chief Ministers like S. Parkash Singh Badal had been given NSG Security apart from the state security. Moreover, the security provided by the Central Government has been there with me since long. Why the sudden withdrawal of state police security after my having exposed to the maladministration of the government of Captain Amarinder Singh?
I am neither scared nor shall be cowed down by this act of the government which is instead of working for the people, choosing to act against the interest of the very people who had voted this government to power and is now trying to shut the mouths of people who are speaking in favour of the public by committing such acts as withdrawing the security. My attempts to expose the truth would continue irrespective of these illegal actions of the government against me.
