Gurdaspur, November 3, 2026 (Yes Punjab News)
Union Minister of State Krishan Pal Gurjar on Tuesday accused the Congress and its allies of attempting to change the government through unrest rather than the public mandate, saying voters decide changes in power through elections.
Gurjar was addressing the BJP’s ‘Loktantra Bachao, Arajakta Hatao’ (Save Democracy, Remove Anarchy) padayatra in Gurdaspur. The march began at the city’s old bus stand and concluded at Hanuman Chowk, with party leaders and workers from Amritsar, Tarn Taran, Gurdaspur and Pathankot districts participating.
Targeting Congress, Gurjar alleged that the party had repeatedly attacked the Constitution and democracy during its time in power. He also criticised Rahul Gandhi and Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge over their remarks against Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his family. Gurjar said changes in government should take place through elections and the people’s mandate.
Former Punjab BJP president Ashwani Sharma said the BJP would take to the streets whenever, in his view, Congress attacked the Constitution or threatened democratic institutions. He described the yatras as a nationwide public outreach campaign against what the BJP alleges are Congress attempts to change power through unrest.
Sharma also said India was emerging as a global force under Prime Minister Narendra Modi and accused Rahul Gandhi and his allies of raising allegations of “vote theft”. He claimed that vote theft had historically been associated with the Nehru-Gandhi family.
Several BJP leaders attended the march, including state general secretaries Jiwan Garg and Rajnish Dhiman, former Punjab Assembly Deputy Speaker Dinesh Babbu, state general secretary Rajesh Bagha and district presidents Baghel Singh and Salil Kapoor.
