Army Chief, General Upendra Dwivedi interacted with veterans during his visit to Vajra Corps and felicitated four distinguished ex-servicemen including a 1971 war veteran with the ‘Veteran Achievers Award’ for their outstanding contributions to society, youth empowerment & Nation Building. They were honoured during a ceremony held at Jalandhar on Saturday.
These ex-servicemen include Colonel Jagdeep Singh – a wheelchair-bound battle casualty himself, Commander Gurcharan Singh – a 1971 war veteran, Honorary Captain Gurmail Singh and Havildar Simranjeet Singh.
They all are working for the welfare of ex-servicemen and their families besides the youth of the state in training them to join forces, conduct environmental awareness, girls’ education and anti-drug campaigns in Punjab.
Earlier, the Chief of Army Staff (COAS) paid obeisance at Sri Harmandir Sahib (Golden Temple) in Amritsar along with his wife Sunita Dwivedi and other family members.
