In a smooth and uncontested election, Amarjit Mehta was unanimously re-elected as the President of the Punjab Cricket Association (PCA), marking another term at the helm of the state’s top cricketing body. In a notable development, two senior leaders affiliated with the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP)—Deepak Bali and Kulwant Singh—secured prestigious roles within the PCA leadership.
Deepak Bali, currently the General Secretary of AAP’s Punjab unit and Advisor to the Punjab Heritage and Tourism Board, was elected Vice President of the PCA. Joining him is Kulwant Singh, the MLA from Mohali, who was elected as Secretary. Their unopposed selection was confirmed on the first day of the nomination process, as detailed in an official announcement on the PCA’s website.
This is the first time two active AAP leaders have been elected to key decision-making positions in Punjab’s cricketing framework—a move that could significantly shape future policy and administrative directions in the sport at the state level.
Re-elected President Amarjit Mehta is the father of Padamjit Mehta, an AAP leader, further underscoring the increasing influence of the party in sports governance.
Sunil Gupta, previously serving as both Treasurer of PCA and Vice-Chairman of the Punjab Economic Policy and Planning Board with cabinet minister status, also retained his treasurer role unopposed.
The PCA election schedule had initially set July 4 as the last date for filing nominations, with the final candidate list to be released on July 7. A polling date of July 12 was only to be triggered if any contest emerged—which it didn’t.
The unopposed outcome reflects a rare consensus in PCA politics and ushers in a new chapter led by a mix of seasoned cricket administrators and politically active figures from the ruling party in Punjab.
