Hollywood actress Amanda Seyfried has revealed that she is now more cautious about taking on projects featuring intimate scenes, saying she recently turned down a series because of its frequent sex scenes.
The 40-year-old actress opened up about how her attitude towards on-screen intimacy has changed over the years, explaining that such scenes have become increasingly uncomfortable for her as she has grown older.
Speaking with actor Alec Baldwin during a panel at the Hamptons International Film Festival, Seyfried said she had declined a role that required frequent intimate scenes.
“I passed on a show where I would have to have sex all the time because of the sex. Doesn’t matter (who it’s with). I don’t wanna do it. I’m uncomfortable with it. I’m not into it right now,” she said.
She added that her perspective could change in the future but said she was currently uncomfortable with the idea of being naked with a stranger for a role.
“Maybe if (the project) came along again (at a later point), maybe I’d be in a different space. But I don’t wanna deal with being naked with a stranger,” she said.
Although Seyfried did not disclose which role she had turned down, she acknowledged that she had once approached intimate scenes very differently.
“Our jobs are weird. And as I get older, it gets weirder. We have to be romantic with people that we’re not romantic with. Sometimes it’s great. Sometimes it’s really uncomfortable,” she said.
Reflecting on her earlier experiences, the actress recalled that kissing scenes had once felt exciting and effortless. She joked that she used to look forward to making out with an attractive co-star, even describing it as a fun part of the job.
Seyfried also spoke about how becoming a mother has helped her learn to establish boundaries and become more comfortable saying no.
“I have kids now who are paying attention to what I do. And so I have to be less of a pushover,” she said.
Sharing an example involving her daughter Nina, Seyfried recalled being approached for a photograph while walking across a street in Manhattan. She politely declined the request and later asked her daughter whether she thought the response was appropriate.
According to Seyfried, Nina told her she was proud of her mother for saying no.
The actress said a similar interaction took place at a coffee shop, where a barista also asked for a photograph. Seyfried declined again, saying she would return later, and her daughter once more expressed pride in her decision.
Reacting to the experience, Seyfried said she felt it should be she who taught her daughter the importance of setting boundaries, rather than the other way around.
Her comments highlight how her approach to both professional choices and everyday interactions has evolved, with personal comfort and the example she sets for her children playing an increasingly important role.
