Allegations levelled by SAD, a pack of lies: Sadhu Singh Dharamsot

The Social Justice, Empowerment and Minorities Minister, Punjab, Mr. Sadhu Singh Dharamsot has termed the allegations levelled by Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) as a pack of lies and clarified that there is no bungling in the scholarship amount.

In a press communique here today, Mr. Dharamsot clearing the air, shared the details of the Post Matric Scholarship Scheme for SC and OBC category and divulged that under the scheme, the total demand pertaining to the year 2016-17 was Rs. 780.31 Crore in which the share of the Union Government comes to Rs. 719.52 Crore while that of the State Government is Rs. 60.79 Crore.

He said that out of the central share, Rs. 303.92 crores have been received and Rs. 415.60 crores are pending.

The minister further divulged that out of Rs. 303.92 crores received by the State Government, Utilization Certificate regarding Rs. 231.20 crores have been sent to the Union Government whereas the Certificates pertaining to Rs. 72.72 crore would be sent shortly.

He also added that sanction for Rs. 14.40 crore related to the OBC Scholarship, has also been accorded. As per the directions of the Union Government, the process to credit the same in the accounts of the students is on.

Mr. Dharamsot also elaborated that the approval with regard to the release of the Post Matric Scholarship Scheme for SC amount of Rs. 72.72 crores has also been given. The amount would be credited directly into the account of the students.

He also clarified that there is no bungling as far as this amount is concerned. He further disclosed that the Union Government was approached earlier also in connection with the pending amount of year 2016-17 and written communication would be sent soon again in this regard.
