Ferozepur, April 27, 2019 (Yes Punjab News)

Deputy Commissioner Ferozepur Mr. Chander Gaind today said that the district administration would get FIR registered against the polling staff that would fail to report for duty during the ensuing Lok Sabha polls.

Divulging the details, the Deputy Commissioner said that he has asked the Election cell to issue show cause notice to erring employees who have not reported to duty so far. He said that the employees who would be absent from the rehearsals have to face legal as well as departmental action.

Mr. Gaind said that Election Duty was a national duty and any sort of callousness on part of the officers/ officials in performing this duty was unwarranted, undesirable and intolerable.

The Deputy Commissioner said that if any employee abstains from his poll duty deliberately, then the administration would lodge an FIR against him under section 134 of the Representation of the People Act.

He further said that it was a matter of pride for government employees that the Election Commission of India has entrusted them with the task of conducting polls. Mr. Gaind said that all of us should happily come forward to participate in this great democratic process.

The Deputy Commissioner pointed out that if everyone gets exemption from poll duty then how the national government of the country would be elected. He said that this was most important duty in any democratic set up and we all must come forward and perform this duty zealously.

Mr. Gaind exhorted the government employees deployed on poll duty not to approach him for seeking exemption from election duty, as no duty would be struck off in the larger national interest.
