AAP Govt playing politics in presenting challan against me: Majithia

Mohali, April 10, 2023 (Yes Punjab News)
Former minister Bikram Singh Majithia today said the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government was playing politics in presenting the challan under the NDPS Act registered against him by the previous Congress government one and a half years back, even as he asserted that the State DGP had not acted on his complaint of receipt of threatening calls.

Talking to newsmen here, Mr Bikram Majithia said it was condemnable that despite the fact that a case under the NDPS Act had been registered against him on December 20, 2021, the AAP government was yet to submit a challan in the case till now. “Instead of presenting a challan in the case and letting the courts decide on its merits, the AAP government is doing politics”.

When queried on the law and order situation which he said had reached an all time low coupled with an increase in drug menace and communal disharmony, Mr Majithia said “I have also received seven to eight threatening calls. I handed over classified information regarding this to the State DGP but no action has been taken in the matter till now.

It seems I have been left to my own fate. If this can happen to me I shudder to think about the fate of the common man”. He said this was the reason top industrialists were choosing to pay extortion rather than report extortion calls to the police.

Answering a query, Mr Majithia said the DGP had given a statement from Amritsar claiming all was well but the factual position belied this claim. “Section 144 has been imposed in many parts of the State. The common man is insecure. Communal disharmony is at an all time high”.

Reacting to another query, the former minister said he had given proof that the Group of Ministers had agreed in writing that the transfer of rebate benefit to retailer via L-1 was not given and that L-1 holders misused monopolistic position to dictate terms to retailers. “The Group of Ministers also noted that this year the revenue due to the government from L-1 holders would increase to Rs 150 crore from a mere Rs 28 crore last year.

This proves that last year L-1 holders like Brindco and Anant Wines, who have been indicted in the Delhi excise scam, looted the Punjab exchequer also in collusion with the AAP government. This money should be recovered and action should be taken against all the guilty on the Delhi pattern by registering a CBI case in the matter”.

Mr Majithia also challenged finance minister Harpal Cheema to prove that excise collection had increased by 47 per cent. He said the current excise revenue was inflated by adding Rs 926 crore revenue which was carried forward to this year due to delay in formation of the new excise policy. He said the actual increase was only ten per cent.
