New Delhi, October 10, 2026 (Yes Punjab News)

Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) founder Abhijeet Dipke has handed over leadership of the outfit’s protest against Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar to its Organisation In-Charge, Ajinkya Shinde, following the detention of the party’s core leadership in Delhi on Saturday.

In a pre-recorded video shared on Dipke’s X account, he urged supporters to follow Shinde and continue the CJP movement in the absence of its conveners. Dipke, along with co-conveners Saurav Das and Ashutosh Ranka, was detained by Delhi Police from an aircraft after it landed at Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport.

“If you are watching this video, it means that I, Saurav Das and Ashutosh Ranka have been arrested. In our absence, Ajinkya will lead the protest and the CJP movement,” Dipke said in the video, asking supporters to follow Shinde as he carried the movement forward.

Earlier, Dipke shared footage showing police personnel entering the aircraft. In another video posted on social media, he was heard telling the police, “I have come here to be arrested; arrest me.”

The CJP announced the detentions through a post on its social media account, stating that Dipke, Das and Ranka had been detained.

Social media influencer Dhruv Rathee was also detained from his residence in Gurugram. According to a post on the CJP’s X account, around 50 police personnel in plain clothes arrived at Rathee’s residence at approximately 8 a.m. and took him into custody.

Meanwhile, officials said around 1,000 protesters had been detained from different parts of the national Capital on Saturday while heading to participate in the agitation called by the CJP. The protest seeks the resignation of CEC Gyanesh Kumar over alleged irregularities in the conduct of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls.

In a separate development, Dipke’s grandmother passed away on Saturday in Santuk Pimpri village in Maharashtra’s Hingoli district. She had reportedly been unwell for several days due to a prolonged illness and age-related ailments.

Delhi Police officials said Dipke had been informed about her death. According to officials, it would be up to him to decide whether to remain in detention and continue the protest or return to attend the last rites.
