New Delhi, October 10, 2026 (Yes Punjab News)

A bus carrying detained protesters came under a stone-pelting attack in Delhi’s Jhandewalan area on Saturday as police continued detaining people arriving in the national capital for the proposed Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) protest at Jantar Mantar, officials said.

According to officials, the incident occurred while police were transporting detainees through Jhandewalan. Some protesters allegedly attempted to escape custody and damage the bus during transit. Police personnel managed to detain them again and subsequently took them to the designated location, officials said.

Security was tightened around Jhandewalan Metro Station, with a heavy police deployment and traffic restrictions put in place to maintain order and prevent further disruption. The incident also led to traffic diversions in and around the area as police continued security operations.

Police detained more than 1,000 protesters across Delhi on Saturday as they attempted to reach the venue for the proposed demonstration against Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar. Security arrangements were also strengthened across the National Capital Region (NCR) ahead of the planned agitation.

Police had said on Friday that permission for the CJP protest had been denied because the organisers allegedly failed to comply with legal directions and commitments made during an earlier demonstration.

CJP founder Abhijeet Dipke and party spokespersons Saurabh Das and Ashutosh Ranka were detained at Indira Gandhi International Airport upon arriving in Delhi ahead of the planned protest at Jantar Mantar.

Social media influencer Dhruv Rathee was also reportedly detained at his residence in Gurugram. In a post on its X account, the CJP claimed that around 50 police personnel in plain clothes reached Rathee’s residence at approximately 8 a.m. and took him into custody.

The proposed demonstration was called to protest against CEC Gyanesh Kumar, with organisers raising allegations concerning the conduct of electoral processes. Police maintained that permission for the gathering had been denied, citing compliance-related concerns.
