Maharaja Ranjit Singh Punjab Technical University (MRSPTU), Bathinda, organised a two-day workshop on sustainable green energy and the climate crisis under the AICTE-VAANI initiative, bringing together more than 50 participants from educational institutions and universities across Punjab and Haryana.
Titled “Sustainable Green Energy Initiatives & Climate Crisis: Navigating from Local to Global”, the workshop was organised by the Department of Electrical Engineering at Giani Zail Singh Campus College of Engineering and Technology (GZSCCET), MRSPTU. All sessions were conducted in Punjabi to make scientific knowledge and discussions on environmental challenges accessible to a wider audience.
Er. Harparveen Singh Bindra, Chief Engineer (Electrical), West Zone, Bathinda, attended the inaugural ceremony as the chief guest. MRSPTU Vice-Chancellor Prof. (Dr.) Sanjeev Kumar Sharma, Registrar Prof. Paramjeet Singh, Coordinator Dr. Sarbjeet Kaur Bath, Co-Coordinator and Head of the Department of Electrical Engineering Dr. Gagandeep Kaur, Head of the Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering Dr. Neeraj Gill, and Assistant Director, College Development Council, Dr. Yadwinder Pal Sharma, were also present. The speakers stressed the importance of green technologies, sustainable energy practices and collective action to address climate change.
The first day featured expert sessions on energy transition strategies from local to global by Dr. Gagandeep Kaur of GZSCCET; alternative energy technologies by Prof. (Dr.) Gursewak Singh Brar of Baba Banda Singh Bahadur Engineering College, Fatehgarh Sahib; climate resilience and adaptation by Prof. (Dr.) Amandeep Kaur of G.H.G. Harparkash College of Education for Women, Sidhwan Khurd, Ludhiana; and sustainable green energy initiatives in manufacturing by Dr. Jagmeet Singh, Deputy General Manager, Industrial Engineering and Development, Metlonics Industries Private Limited, Mohali.
On the second day, Er. Karan Kansal, entrepreneur at Mahashakti Energy Limited, Bathinda, spoke on energy-saving strategies in energy industries. Prof. (Dr.) Sandeep Kaur of the Department of Electrical Engineering, Punjab Engineering College, Chandigarh, discussed green energy technologies, while Er. Paramjit Singh, Senior General Manager (Operations), Guru Nanak Auto Enterprises Limited, Phagwara, addressed energy transition strategies in Industry 4.0.
The concluding session featured a panel discussion led by Prof. (Dr.) Sunil Mittal of the School of Environment and Earth Sciences, Central University of Punjab. The panellists included Prof. (Dr.) Sarbjeet Kaur Bath; Dr. Ram Singh Sran; S. Baljinder Singh Maan, a weather forecast expert associated with Mausam Punjab Da; and Ms. Ramandeep Kaur, a research scholar at Guru Kashi University, Talwandi Sabo.
The discussion explored renewable energy, climate challenges and sustainable practices, highlighting the need for collaboration among academic institutions, industry, environmental experts and communities to improve energy efficiency, strengthen climate resilience and promote sustainable development.
Dr. Anumeet Kaur conducted the stage proceedings on both days, while Dr. Ved Parkash Arora delivered the vote of thanks.
Faculty and staff members who contributed to organising the workshop included Dr. Rajesh Gupta, Dr. Harsimran Singh, Er. Sandeep Pal Singh, Er. Kajal, Er. Tejinder Singh, S. Naib Singh, S. Gurbakshish Singh, Dr. Haramritpal Singh, Dr. Sukhjinder Singh and Miss Komal Rani, along with other departmental faculty and staff members.
The workshop concluded with a call for responsible energy consumption, innovation in green technologies and coordinated efforts to address the climate crisis. The organising team thanked the university leadership, AICTE-VAANI, the chief guest, resource persons, panellists, faculty members, staff and participants for their contributions to the event.
