Actor-politician Ravi Kishan has expressed grief over the death of veteran actor Nana Patekar, describing the acclaimed artiste as one of the greats of Indian cinema and recalling his simplicity, humility and grounded personality.
Ravi shared a picture of Nana on Instagram and described his death as a “deeply personal loss” for him and an “irreparable loss” for the Indian film industry.
In a heartfelt note written in Hindi, Ravi said he was deeply saddened by the news of Nana’s passing early Thursday. He recalled that despite being a major star, Nana had always remained detached from the trappings of stardom.
“He was one of the great artists of Indian cinema, known for his simplicity, humility and his down-to-earth personality,” Ravi said.
Recalling his personal association with Nana, Ravi said the veteran actor never lost touch with his roots and values despite living amid Mumbai’s glamour and had shared a close and warm relationship with him.
“We would speak from time to time, and I learned a great deal from his acting, simplicity and perspective on life,” he said.
Ravi also remembered Nana for his affection and encouragement, saying his memories and artistic legacy would continue to live on.
Nana Patekar died on Thursday at the age of 75 at his residence in Dona Paula, Goa. According to an official confirmation from Manipal Hospital, Goa, the actor was found unconscious at his residence and was rushed to the hospital, where doctors declared him brought dead.
Known for his powerful performances in Hindi and Marathi cinema, Nana leaves behind a career spanning more than four decades and a remarkable body of work.
