Jan Suraaj founder Prashant Kishor on Tuesday challenged Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar to publicly appeal for votes for JD(U) candidate Neeraj Kumar ahead of the Legislative Council elections, while predicting the defeat of the ruling party’s candidates in the Patna constituencies.
Addressing a nomination rally for Jan Suraaj candidate Divya Jyoti, who is contesting from the Patna Teachers’ Constituency, Kishor alleged that Neeraj Kumar was seeking votes in Nitish Kumar’s name.
Kishor said Jan Suraaj would withdraw its candidate if Nitish Kumar personally appeared in public and appealed to voters to support Neeraj Kumar. He added that such an appeal should be genuine and not AI-generated, referring to an earlier controversy over an allegedly AI-generated video in Bankipur.
Taking aim at the ruling alliance, Kishor claimed that the political “exodus” being discussed was not taking place within Jan Suraaj but within the ruling camp.
He said Jan Suraaj was contesting the MLC elections with full strength and claimed that its campaign had also received support from workers and sympathisers associated with other political formations.
Kishor said teachers and graduates were looking for political change and would vote against the government led by Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary.
Drawing a comparison with the Bankipur Assembly election, he said a similar shift could take place in the Patna Teachers’ and Patna Graduates’ constituencies.
Kishor predicted defeats for JD(U) candidates Neeraj Kumar in the Patna Graduates’ Constituency and Naval Kishore Yadav in the Patna Teachers’ Constituency.
He alleged that the two leaders had occupied influential positions for several years but had failed to adequately address the concerns of teachers and graduates.
The Jan Suraaj founder particularly targeted the government over teachers’ pay scales, alleging that the issue had remained unresolved for years. He also referred to alleged instances of social injustice and questioned the basis on which JD(U) leaders were seeking votes.
Kishor said Jan Suraaj would make education reform, teachers’ dignity and rights, and employment opportunities for educated youth key priorities.
He also promised that if Jan Suraaj formed the government in Bihar, teachers would receive the benefits of the Seventh Pay Commission before the next Lok Sabha elections.
