Bengaluru, October 5, 2026 (Yes Punjab News)

Karnataka Police have arrested a life convict and a prison employee after an investigation allegedly revealed that a forged Supreme Court order was used to secure the convict’s release from Bengaluru Central Prison in 2018. Police are also investigating allegations of sexual exploitation involving two prison officials.

The case came to light after Karna B. Kshetri, Superintendent-in-Charge of Central Prison, Bengaluru, filed a complaint on May 20 alleging that convict Shankar A. had fabricated a Supreme Court order and falsely claimed that he was released on November 13, 2018, on the basis of the purported order.

Police registered a case at Parappana Agrahara Police Station under Sections 465, 468, 471 and 420 of the Indian Penal Code and began an investigation.

According to police, Shankar had been convicted in a case registered at Chikkapet Police Station under Sections 364(A) and 120(B) of the IPC. The Fast Track Court-I had sentenced him to life imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs 10,000 in its July 12, 2004 judgment. His appeals before the Karnataka High Court and the Supreme Court did not result in any change to the sentence.

During the investigation, police alleged that Srikanth S., then working as a Second Division Assistant and currently posted as a First Division Assistant in the Convict Prisoner Section, sexually exploited Shankar’s wife. He allegedly subsequently fabricated a purported Supreme Court order relating to a criminal appeal petition dated November 2, 2018.

Police said the forged document was used to secure Shankar’s release from the prison on November 13, 2018.

Shankar and Srikanth were arrested and produced before a court, which remanded them to judicial custody.

During questioning, Shankar’s wife also alleged that Somashekar, who was then serving as Chief Superintendent/DIG, sexually exploited her in connection with efforts to secure her husband’s release.

Police said the allegation against Somashekar is under investigation. The probe is being conducted under the supervision of DCP M. Narayana of Electronic City Division, with ACP Satish K.M., Inspector P.G. Naveen Kumar, PSIs Mahadevayya and Kalavathi and other personnel involved in the investigation.
