Mumbai, October 5, 2026 (Yes Punjab News)
Celebrity chef and actor Ranveer Brar has opened up about the idea behind his new quiz-based food show ‘Yess Chef’, saying the project aims to make food knowledge as engaging and accessible as conversations around cricket and Bollywood.
Speaking to IANS during the show’s promotions in Mumbai’s Andheri West, Brar said the show was created with friends from the entertainment industry, including actor-comedian Zakir Khan, his brother Zeeshan, and actors Angad Bedi and Aparshakti Khurana.
Brar said he invited his friends to participate in something different and that everyone agreed to come on board, eventually leading to the show being titled ‘Yess Chef’.
Explaining the concept, Brar said food knowledge is often treated too seriously, unlike cricket or Bollywood, which people naturally discuss in a relaxed and entertaining manner. He said the show seeks to change that perception by turning food knowledge into something friends can enjoy together.
He described the quiz as something that could be played among friends in a living-room setting and said the response had been encouraging, with the show expected to touch one million views within around 24 hours of an episode’s release.
‘Yess Chef’ is available for streaming on Brar’s YouTube channel.
Brar also shared his views on developing better food habits, particularly the importance of buying fresh produce from local markets. He said the popularity of quick-commerce platforms had changed the culture of shopping for vegetables and encouraged people to return to local markets whenever possible.
According to Brar, shopping for fresh vegetables personally helps people appreciate the quality of produce. He added that quick-delivery apps could be useful in emergencies but should not completely replace traditional market shopping.
He also advised people to avoid overstocking their refrigerators, arguing that buying and preparing only what is needed can reduce food waste as well as the pressure of managing leftovers.
Brar’s comments come amid growing concerns over food safety and quality, with authorities in Maharashtra recently carrying out several enforcement drives related to food safety.
