Rapper and music producer Yo Yo Honey Singh did not appear before the Maharashtra Cyber Cell on Monday for questioning in connection with a case arising from controversial remarks allegedly made during a concert in Delhi.
According to the Maharashtra Cyber Cell, Singh had been served a notice directing him to appear personally before the investigating officer and record his statement. However, the rapper has sought additional time to appear, the agency said.
The case stems from a complaint filed with the Maharashtra Cyber Cell over allegedly indecent remarks made by Singh during a concert. The agency is investigating the complaint and had summoned him for questioning as part of the probe.
Earlier this year, a video clip of Singh making a controversial remark during a performance went viral on social media, drawing criticism from several users. The remarks were interpreted by some as an inappropriate reference to sexual activity.
Singh subsequently addressed the controversy through a social media video and apologised, saying the clip had been edited and that he had not intended to hurt, insult or offend anyone.
Explaining the context, Singh said he had recently spoken with a gynaecologist and sexologist about concerns surrounding sexually transmitted diseases among young people and the risks associated with unprotected sex.
He said that while attending a show featuring Nanku and Karun, he tried to convey a message about protection to a predominantly Gen Z audience in language he believed they would understand.
The Maharashtra Cyber Cell is continuing its investigation, while Singh’s request for additional time to appear before the investigating officer is under consideration.
