Music composer and singer Himesh Reshammiya is returning to the judges’ chair with Indian Idol: Legends Return, and his message to the show’s returning stars is clear: winning once is not enough.
In a newly released promo, Reshammiya describes the upcoming season as the “biggest battle” in the history of Indian Idol, with former contestants returning to prove themselves once again.
“Sirf ek baar jeetna kaafi nahi hota, baar baar jeetna padta hai,” he says in the promo, emphasising that sustained success requires repeatedly proving one’s talent.
Reshammiya also draws on his own career journey, recalling a phase when he felt the need to establish himself all over again despite having achieved major commercial success.
He cites producing 36 superhit songs in a year and the success of his album Aap Kaa Surroor, which he describes as the second highest-selling album in the world after Michael Jackson’s Thriller. He also refers to his claim of having delivered 1,300 blockbuster hits before reaching a point where he felt compelled to prove himself again.
According to Reshammiya, he subsequently demonstrated his ability to reinvent himself through the Cap Mania tour and by becoming the only Indian featured on Bloomberg’s Global Popstar list.
“Sirf ek baar jeetna kaafi nahi hota, baar-baar jeetna padta hai,” he reiterates.
The promos also hint at a more competitive season, with Reshammiya suggesting that the returning contestants will be fighting not merely for victory but to preserve and rebuild their identities in the music industry.
The season brings back several familiar faces from different editions of Indian Idol. Season 1 winner Abhijeet Sawant and runner-up Amit Sana will participate, along with Season 10 winner Salman Ali.
Season 12 finalist Mohd. Danish, Season 13 finalist Bidipta Chakraborty and Season 16 runners-up Anshika Chonkar, Manraj Veer and Tanishk Shukla are also part of the lineup.
Indian Idol: Legends Return will premiere on October 17 on Sony Entertainment Television.
