Controversial social media influencer, makeup artist and fashion stylist Mad Sandhu was shot dead in Amritsar on Saturday.
According to initial information, Sandhu was fired upon and sustained at least two bullet injuries. Critically injured in the attack by bike-borne assailants, he succumbed while being taken to a hospital.
Sandhu, whose original name was Madhu Sudan, had built a substantial presence on social media and was widely known for his fashion content, lifestyle vlogs, comedy videos and outspoken style.
He frequently remained a subject of discussion, and at times controversy, over his social media reels, lifestyle and utterances. His content attracted both a large following and considerable trolling on social media.
Sandhu was also known among people associated with fashion, social media and the Punjabi entertainment industry.
There had reportedly been threats against Sandhu from some individuals and organisations opposed to his conduct and content on social media. However, it was not immediately known whether he had ever approached the police or any other authority regarding such threats.
The motive behind Saturday’s shooting and the identity of the assailants were not immediately known.
Sandhu had recently faced extensive trolling on social media after purchasing a Thar. Some social media users had even posted comments saying that they would no longer purchase or drive the vehicle because of him.
Apart from his social media presence, Sandhu was the founder of Mane Lane Unisex Salon.
He had more than 226,000 followers on his Instagram account, @its_madsandhuofficial, besides maintaining a presence on other social media platforms, including Snapchat and YouTube through MadSandhu Vlogs.
His online content ranged from beauty and makeup videos to lifestyle vlogs, comedy and interviews and podcasts focusing on his personal journey, business and experiences as a social media personality.
During 2025 and 2026, Sandhu emerged as a widely recognised face across Punjabi social media, with clips from his videos, podcasts and commentary frequently circulating through reels and reaction videos.
