India’s Nitesh Siwach won a silver medal in men’s Greco-Roman 97kg wrestling at the Asian Games on Thursday, while Mansi Ahlawat missed out on a bronze in the women’s 62kg category after losing her medal bout to Mongolia’s Altjin Togtokh at the Nagoya City Inae Sports Center.
Nitesh went down 0-4 to Japan’s Yuri Nakazato in the final, settling for silver. He had become the first Indian to reach a Greco-Roman final at the continental event since the 1962 Asian Games, but could not complete his campaign with a gold medal.
The 2026 Asian Championships silver medallist had reached the final with a commanding 9-0 technical superiority win over Hangzhou 2023 bronze medallist Ganbaatar in the semifinals. He had earlier defeated Turkmenistan’s Amanberdi Agamammedov 7-1 in the quarterfinals.

Mansi, meanwhile, lost 2-5 to Altjin in the bronze medal bout. The Mongolian took an early 2-0 lead by pushing Mansi out of bounds and maintained the advantage through the first round. Mansi later levelled the score at 2-2 after earning a passivity point and driving her opponent out of bounds. However, Altjin secured two more points in the closing seconds. India’s challenge against the scoring was unsuccessful, and another point was awarded to the Mongolian.
Mansi had begun her campaign with a 6-1 win over Irina Kuznetsova before defeating South Korea’s Jo Su-been 5-0 in the quarterfinals. She lost 0-6 to Paris Olympics bronze medallist and Hangzhou Asian Games champion Nonoka Ozaki in the semifinals.
Earlier, Sumit lost his Greco-Roman 60kg quarterfinal to Iran’s Sajjad Abbaspourragani. The bout ended 1-1, with Sumit losing on VPO1. Aman was defeated 0-9 by Qatar’s Shahin Badaghimofrad in the 77kg quarterfinals, after an 8-6 pre-quarterfinal win over Mongolia’s Borgil Tuvshinbaatar. Neither wrestler qualified for repechage, as their respective opponents failed to reach the finals.
India had already secured a Greco-Roman medal at the Games through Sunil Kumar, who won bronze in the men’s 87kg event on Wednesday.
