Air India will shift all its flights operating to and from Visakhapatnam to the newly inaugurated Alluri Sitarama Raju International Airport at Bhogapuram from August 17, while retaining the existing VTZ airport code.
The airline said it will continue to operate 14 weekly flights between Bhogapuram and Delhi, providing passengers with connectivity to several domestic and international destinations through its hubs.
The new airport terminal, spread across 77,342 square metres, is equipped with 22 conventional check-in counters, 18 self-baggage drop units, advanced passenger screening systems, modern baggage-handling facilities and seven aerobridges.
The airport will operate under the IATA code VTZ, which is being transferred from the existing Visakhapatnam airport. The existing airport will continue to be used for defence and police operations, VIP movements and unscheduled special flights, according to officials.
The current flight schedule for Bhogapuram will remain in effect until October 24, 2026, under the prevailing aviation timetable. Air India will operate multiple daily services connecting Bhogapuram with Hyderabad, Bengaluru and Vijayawada, strengthening air connectivity within Andhra Pradesh and with neighbouring states.
Flights between Hyderabad and Bhogapuram will operate twice daily. Bengaluru will also have two daily services, with an additional return flight available on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday.
The Alluri Sitarama Raju International Airport was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on August 1. Located in Bhogapuram in Andhra Pradesh’s Vizianagaram district, the airport serves the wider Visakhapatnam metropolitan region.
