Cooperative-led mobility platform Bharat Taxi has enrolled 8.48 lakh drivers and 44.27 lakh customers, while facilitating an average of 11,106 rides every day across the country, the Rajya Sabha was informed on Wednesday.
Union Home Minister and Minister of Cooperation Amit Shah said the platform, operated by Sahakar Taxi Cooperative Limited (STCL), has enabled cumulative earnings of Rs 83.70 crore for its drivers, known as Sarathis.
Bharat Taxi has so far been officially launched in Delhi-NCR, Gujarat, Maharashtra and Rajasthan. The service is being expanded to other states in phases, subject to operational requirements and the necessary approvals, according to the Ministry of Cooperation.
The expansion is being undertaken based on operational preparedness, availability of Sarathis, completion of statutory requirements and coordination with state governments, cooperative institutions and other stakeholders.
The implementation involves onboarding drivers, enrolling customers, conducting training programmes and extending services to identified cities and states.
Delhi-NCR accounts for the largest share of Bharat Taxi’s daily rides at 5,574, followed by Gujarat with 3,817. Pune records 632 daily rides, Jaipur 372, Lucknow 324, Mumbai 197 and Chandigarh 190, taking the combined average to 11,106 rides a day.
Shah said Bharat Taxi is a cooperative-based mobility platform operated by STCL under the Multi-State Cooperative Societies Act, 2002.
He also clarified that Yatri Sathi is a separate mobility platform developed and operated by the Department of Information Technology and Electronics (DITE), Government of West Bengal.
STCL signed a memorandum of understanding with the West Bengal government on July 19, 2026, to collaborate with Yatri Sathi. Under the agreement, Bharat Taxi will support driver enrolment, cooperative membership, driver welfare and public outreach.
