Chandigarh, August 3, 2026 (Yes Punjab News)

The Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER), Chandigarh, has been honoured with the National Award for the Best Regional Organ and Tissue Transplant Organisation (ROTTO) for the third consecutive year, marking its fourth overall national recognition since the award was instituted in 2019.

The award was presented during the 16th Indian Organ Donation Day celebrations held in New Delhi under the aegis of the National Organ and Tissue Transplant Organisation (NOTTO). Union Minister of State for Health Anupriya Patel conferred the honour and congratulated the award-winning institutions for their contribution to strengthening India’s organ donation movement and promoting ethical, transparent and equitable organ transplantation.

The award was received on behalf of PGIMER Director Prof Vivek Lal by a delegation comprising Medical Superintendent Prof Ashok Kumar, Prof Dheeraj Khurana, Prof Hemant Bhagat, Dr Vijay Tadia and Saryu D. Madra.

Expressing gratitude for the recognition, Prof Vivek Lal described the achievement as a proud moment for the entire PGIMER community and said it reflected the institute’s sustained commitment to excellence in organ donation and transplantation through quality patient care, innovation and teamwork.

He dedicated the honour to the institute’s healthcare professionals and paid tribute to donor families, whose generosity and courage continue to give new hope and save countless lives.

Prof Lal said that PGIMER, designated as ROTTO North, remains committed to strengthening the organ donation ecosystem across northern India through mentorship, capacity building, professional training, institutional collaboration and the promotion of ethical best practices. He added that the institute aims to help every state and transplant centre develop sustainable and efficient transplant programmes, and that the latest recognition reinforces its responsibility to lead with excellence, collaboration and compassion.

The ceremony was attended by senior officials of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Secretaries and officers from various states and Union Territories, heads of leading healthcare institutions, transplant specialists, donor and recipient families, transplant coordinators, NGOs and civil society organisations working in the field of organ donation.
