The sacred Kalash Yatra carrying soil from Seer Govardhanpur in Varanasi, the birthplace of Sant Shiromani Guru Ravidas Ji, received a devotional welcome in Punjab on Saturday as part of the ‘Samrasta Sankalp Abhiyan’ marking his 650th Prakash Parv.
Punjab BJP President Kewal Singh Dhillon received the holy Kalash at Lalru and paid his respects before it. Later, at a state-level programme held at Arya Samaj Mandir in Chandigarh, the Kalashs containing the sacred soil were handed over to district BJP presidents, who will take the yatra to different parts of the state.
The programme also featured kirtan based on the divine hymns of Guru Ravidas Ji, creating a spiritual atmosphere among the participants.
Addressing the gathering, Dhillon said Guru Ravidas Ji’s vision of ‘Begampura’, based on equality, dignity and justice, reflected the values behind Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of ‘Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas’.
He called upon BJP leaders and workers to turn the ‘Samrasta Sankalp Abhiyan’ into a people’s movement by spreading Guru Ravidas Ji’s message of social harmony and equality across Punjab.
Describing the arrival of the sacred soil as an emotional and historic moment, Dhillon said it symbolised the blessings of Guru Ravidas Ji for the people of Punjab. He added that the BJP holds the teachings and legacy of Guru Ravidas Ji in the highest regard.
Dhillon highlighted initiatives undertaken by the Central Government at Seer Govardhanpur, including the development of facilities such as a langar hall, museum and statue dedicated to Guru Ravidas Ji. He also mentioned the naming of Adampur Airport after Guru Ravidas Ji, the Padma Shri honour awarded to Sant Niranjan Dass Ji, and the special train service connecting Jalandhar and Varanasi for devotees.
He said the inclusion of Guru Ravidas Ji’s bani in Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji represents the deep spiritual connection between Punjab and Guru Ravidas Ji’s teachings of equality, fraternity and humanity.
Dhillon thanked BJP National President Nitin Nabin and the party leadership for organising the nationwide campaign from Guru Purnima to Magh Purnima. He urged party workers to involve saints, religious organisations, youth and women in the initiative and make it a mission for social harmony.
The programme concluded with Dhillon honouring members of the committee involved in organising the Kalash Yatra. Senior BJP leaders, office-bearers and party workers attended the event.
