TVK government will continue for ’50 years’: TN minister

Chennai, May 24, 2026
Rejecting speculation by opposition parties over the stability of the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK)-led coalition government, Tamil Nadu Minister for School Education, Tamil Development, Information and Publicity Rajmohan on Sunday asserted that the administration led by Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay enjoys strong public backing and would remain politically stable for the long term.

Speaking to reporters in Chennai, Rajmohan dismissed repeated criticism from opposition parties regarding the state government’s future and said such predictions had repeatedly failed.

According to the Minister, similar doubts had been raised even before the Assembly elections, with political rivals claiming that TVK would not be able to come to power.

However, the alliance had not only succeeded in forming the government but also secured the people’s mandate, the Minister said.

Rajmohan expressed confidence that the state government would comfortably complete its present five-year tenure and continue to enjoy public support in the years ahead.

He said that the state administration’s focus on governance and public welfare would strengthen its position among the electorate.

Responding to allegations raised by opposition parties concerning the law-and-order situation in the state, Rajmohan said the state government had been taking preventive measures from the first day after assuming charge.

He said the police department had been actively identifying sensitive areas across the state and implementing precautionary strategies aimed at preventing crimes and maintaining public safety.

Awareness programmes and surveillance measures were also being carried out in various locations as part of the broader security framework, he added.

Referring to the recent Coimbatore incident that sparked public concern, the Minister said authorities acted swiftly and the accused were arrested without delay, demonstrating the state government’s commitment to maintaining law and order.

Rajmohan also criticised the DMK over its remarks regarding the Congress’ shift from the DMK-led alliance to the TVK alliance.

He accused the principal opposition party DMK of viewing political allies through a feudal mindset and said that political parties have the right to independently decide their alliances and political direction.

Meanwhile, Speaker J.C.D. Prabhakar addressed questions relating to the ongoing dispute between rival factions within the AIADMK over Legislature Party leadership.

He said that representations submitted by both sides were under examination and an appropriate decision would be announced in the Assembly at the proper time.

He added that he would demonstrate his neutrality as Speaker of the House.(Agency)
