Congress MP Sukhjinder Randhawa Demands Immediate Ban on ‘Lawrence of Punjab’

Chandigarh, April 21, 2026 (Yes Punjab News)

Former Deputy Chief Minister of Punjab and Member of Parliament from Gurdaspur, Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa, has termed the proposed television series “Lawrence of Punjab”, based on a notorious gangster, as dangerous for the youth of Punjab and the country.

Raising strong objections, he demanded an immediate ban on the series. He stated that such content not only promotes gun culture but also glorifies crime and gangsterism, spreading a harmful message in society.

Randhawa clearly stated that Punjab, a sacred land enriched by the legacy of Gurus, saints, and martyrs, should not be associated with the name of a criminal. Such content can mislead young people and push them toward the wrong path. “A person whose history is linked to violence, crime, and the killing of innocent people should not be glorified in any form.”

The former Deputy CM urged both the central and state governments to take immediate and strict action to stop the broadcast of the series.

He said that spreading toxicity in society under the guise of entertainment cannot be allowed. He added that the film Udta Punjab had previously damaged Punjab’s image, and the state is still struggling to recover from it. Content like this is a major blow to Punjab’s rich heritage.

Randhawa warned that if needed, the issue will be strongly raised in Parliament and even taken to court to safeguard Punjab’s image and the future of its youth.
