As per the schedule issued by the National Legal Services Authority, New Delhi, the second National Lok Adalat of the year 2026 will be organized on May 9, 2026, in District SAS Nagar.
To ensure the successful conduct of the Lok Adalat, Sh. Atul Kasana, District & Sessions Judge-cum-Chairperson, District Legal Services Authority, SAS Nagar, has been convening meetings with officials of various departments of the Central and Punjab Governments, including the BSNL, Banks, Insurance Companies, Electricity Department, and Water Supply & Sanitation Department. He emphasized that maximum number of pending cases should be identified and referred for amicable settlement during the Lok Adalat.
Highlighting the scope of the Lok Adalat, he informed that a wide range of cases will be taken up, including criminal compoundable offences, cases under Section 138 of the Negotiable Instruments Act, bank recovery cases, MACT cases, matrimonial disputes, labour disputes, land acquisition matters, electricity and water bill disputes (excluding non-compoundable theft cases), service matters related to pay, allowances and retiral benefits, revenue cases, and other civil disputes such as rent cases, easementary rights, injunction suits and specific performance suits.
Ms. Amandeep Kaur, Chief Judicial Magistrate-cum-Secretary, District Legal Services Authority, SAS Nagar, stated that pre-litigation cases can also be brought before the Lok Adalat without filing a formal case and without payment of any court fee. She further added that in cases pending before courts, if a settlement is reached in the Lok Adalat, the court fee paid by the parties is refunded as per rules.
She also urged the general public to take maximum benefit of this opportunity for speedy, cost-effective and amicable settlement of disputes.
