Sukhbir Badal challenging independent authority of Sri Akal Takht Sahib by calling Dec 2 orders a conspiracy: Giani Harpreet Singh

Chandigarh, April 8, 2026 (Yes Punjab News)

The orders issued from the premises of Sri Akal Takht Sahib on December 2, 2024, were joint decisions taken by the five Singh Sahibans according to proper procedure and religious protocol. By calling these decisions a conspiracy, Sukhbir Singh Badal is openly challenging the independent authority and status of Sri Akal Takht Sahib.

These remarks were made by the former Jathedar of Sri Akal Takht Sahib, Giani Harpreet Singh, while addressing a meeting of senior leaders of Shiromani Akali Dal (Reform) in Chandigarh.

He said that the narrative being created against the Hukamnamas—that they were a conspiracy of agencies—is a serious attack on the collective authority of the five Singh Sahibans of Sri Akal Takht Sahib. The Sikh community should remain alert about this.

He stated that during the ten-year rule of the Akali Dal–Badal government, several anti-Sikh actions took place. Leaders of the reform movement had mutually agreed to appear before Sri Akal Takht Sahib to seek forgiveness for those mistakes. The leaders had submitted in writing to the five Singh Sahibans that since they were part of that government, they should also be given punishment for those actions.

On the basis of that written statement, the main accused Sukhbir Singh Badal was summoned. In the presence of the Sangat, he publicly admitted all his mistakes. On December 2, 2024, in the courtyard of Sri Akal Takht Sahib, in the presence of Guru Granth Sahib Ji, the five Singh Sahibans made decisions according to Sikh traditions and Maryada.

Those who call this a conspiracy should answer a few questions:

• Did Gurmeet Ram Rahim (Sauda Sadh) not commit the offense of imitating Guru Gobind Singh Ji during the Akali government?
• Was the case filed against him not later withdrawn during the Akali government?
• Was he not granted forgiveness even without asking for it?
• Were ₹92 lakh from the Guru’s Golak not spent on advertisements to promote that forgiveness?
• Did the Guru Granth Sahib bir not go missing from Burj Jawahar Singh Wala during the Akali government?
• Was that sacred bir not desecrated after a written challenge?
• Were promotions not given to the killers of Sikh youth during that period?
• Did the Kotkapura and Behbal Kalan firing incidents not take place during that government?

If Sukhbir Singh Badal admitted all this in the presence of the Sangat and Guru Sahib, then how can these decisions now be called a conspiracy by agencies?

He said that those trying to mislead the people of Punjab think they can regain power by calling this entire historic process a conspiracy. However, the people have already delivered their verdict in elections since 2017. The proof of that decision is that today they have only one seat in the Punjab Assembly.

Now, by accepting mistakes in Guru’s presence and later denying them while calling the decisions a conspiracy, they are committing a grave wrongdoing that will bring disgrace in this world and the next.

He further said that they consider the December 2 Hukamnamas as a blessing of the Guru, in whose light Shiromani Akali Dal (Reform) has been reorganized. Therefore, they will never turn their back on Sri Akal Takht Sahib.

Those present in the meeting included Gurpartap Singh Wadala, Parminder Singh Dhindsa, Sucha Singh Chhotepur, prem singh chandumajra,Iqbal Singh Jhunda, Gobind Singh Longowal, Bibi Jagir Kaur, Sarwan Singh Phillaur, Surjit Singh Rakhra, Jaswinder Singh Boparai, Jagjit Singh Kohli, and other leaders.

This statement was issued to the press by Media Incharge Tejinder Singh Pannu.
