Dr. Rajinder Peshin, Director of Education at Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology (SKUAST) Jammu, visited the Communication Centre at Punjab Agricultural University (PAU), Ludhiana, today.
During his visit, Dr. Peshin met with Dr. Tejinder Singh Riar, Additional Director of Communication, and Dr Kuldeep Singh, Head Department of Extension Education who provided an in-depth overview of the Communication Centre’s pivotal role in disseminating timely scientific information to farmers across the region.
Dr. Riar highlighted the Centre’s comprehensive approach to communication, which includes a variety of publications, electronic media, and social media platforms.
These tools are designed to ensure that critical agricultural knowledge and advancements reach the doorsteps of farmers, enabling them to make informed decisions and adopt best practices in their fields. Dr Kuldeep Singh highlighted the role of extension education scientists in enhancing university communication with farmers through organisation of farmers training camps, workshops and onsite demonstrations.
Dr. Riar also introduced Dr. Peshin to the university’s innovative use of electronic and social media, which play a crucial role in enhancing communication between the university and its diverse stakeholders, including farmers, scientists, and policymakers.
This multifaceted communication strategy has significantly strengthened PAU’s outreach efforts, ensuring that scientific research is effectively translated into practical applications for the farming community.
Dr Lavlish Garg, Extension Scientist gave an overview of university training and skill development programmes aimed at skilling farmers and farm women in different farming areas and enabling them to increase income while practicing sustainable agriculture.
In recognition of his visit, Dr. Peshin was felicitated with a set of university souvenirs, crafted by the Communication Centre.
Dr. Peshin expressed his appreciation for the insights shared and commended the Communication Centre for its exemplary work in bridging the gap between scientific research and field application.
