World Theatre Day was celebrated at Lovely Professional University by the Department of Theatre and Music along with the Division of Art and Culture, presenting a day of performances and discussions centred on theatre and its evolving relevance.
At the centre of the celebration, students staged the award winning Hindi one act play ‘Marham’, presented by the Theatre Society, which held the audience in complete attention. The play, earlier recognised with top honours at the AIU North Zone, stood out for its emotional precision and layered narrative.
Enacted by a talented ensemble of nine students, the play unfolded as a poignant narrative rooted in themes of partition, memory, and human connection. Drawing from its evocative concept, the performance seamlessly transported the audience across timelines, portraying pain, longing, and hope with striking authenticity.
As the narrative progressed, the atmosphere turned deeply emotional, with the audience visibly absorbed in the unfolding story. The performance concluded with thunderous applause, reflecting the impact of the actors’ expressive delivery and the play’s meaningful message.
Addressing the occasion, Col. Dr. Rashmi Mittal, Pro-Chancellor of LPU, remarked that student potential finds direction when supported with the right platforms. Dr. Mittal emphasized that LPU continues to encourage students to pursue their passions wholeheartedly, drawing inspiration from such performances to contribute not only to their personal growth but also towards a greater societal good.
The programme also included a panel discussion on “Theatre and a Culture of Peace”, along with stage performances such as ‘Do Kaudi Ka Khel’ and ‘Abhi Ka Samay’, and a musical presentation, reflecting a broader range of student led creative expression.
LPU continues to offer multiple arenas for students to explore and present their abilities across performing arts, creative disciplines, and beyond. With consistent recognition at platforms such as the AIU Youth Festivals, the university enables students to take their talent to wider stages with confidence.
