A “Raag Basant Kirtan Darbar” was organized with great devotion and enthusiasm at the Gurdwara Sikh Society of Dayton, Ohio recently. In addition to the local Dayton community, a large number of devotees (Sangat) from Cincinnati and Columbus participated in the program.
A unique highlight of this Kirtan Darbar was the participation of approximately 45 Kirtan reciters, ranging from children to elders, who sang Gurbani primarily in Raag Basant over a continuous 8-hour period. The primary objective of the program was to familiarize the Sangat with our rich Kirtan tradition and the profound importance of Raags.
Bhai Kulwant Singh Ji, who traveled specifically from the Columbus Gurdwara Sahib, shared insights on Gurmat Sangeet with the Sangat. He explained that in Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji, Raag is not merely a decoration but a spiritual discipline that connects the mind with the Almighty. He enthralled the congregation with his soulful Kirtan.
Bhai Hem Singh Ji, Head Granthi of the Dayton Gurdwara, along with Bhai Prem Singh Ji, also performed Kirtan and expressed their gratitude to the Sangat who traveled from far-off places to attend.
Throughout the event, Guru Ka Langar was served to all. This gathering successfully brought together the Sangats from surrounding cities like a string of pearls, sending out a powerful message of mutual love and communal harmony.
