Mohali, February 17, 2026 (Yes Punjab News)
Panic gripped parts of Mohali on Tuesday after several private schools and Fortis Hospital received bomb threat emails, prompting an immediate response from Punjab Police and anti-sabotage teams. Authorities conducted extensive searches across the locations, but no suspicious or explosive material was found.
Superintendent of Police (SP City) Mohali, Dilpreet Singh, confirmed that multiple educational institutions, including prominent private schools, were among those targeted in the threatening messages. Fortis Hospital, where Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann is currently admitted, was also mentioned in the emails, leading to heightened security around the medical facility.
Anti-Sabotage Teams Conduct Thorough Checks
Following the threats, police teams, bomb disposal squads, and anti-sabotage units were rushed to the affected schools and the hospital. As a precautionary measure, some schools suspended classes and sent students home while security personnel carried out detailed inspections of the premises.
Officials stated that Fortis Hospital was thoroughly searched and essential services continued under tight security, while non-essential activities were temporarily restricted as a precautionary step.
Emails Linked to Foreign Sources
SP Dilpreet Singh said preliminary investigations suggest that the emails were sent using foreign servers. “Earlier analysis indicated that the IP address was traced to the United States, while the recovery email originated from Bangladesh. Similar patterns have emerged in the latest threats,” he said.
He further noted that the threatening message mentioned the name of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann and appeared intended to create fear and disturb public peace in Punjab. Authorities are working to identify the sender and determine the motive behind the threats.
Part of Wider Pattern of Threat Hoaxes
Police officials said similar bomb threat emails had recently been sent to schools and institutions in other parts of Punjab and neighbouring states, including Chandigarh, Amritsar, Jalandhar, Patiala, and parts of Haryana. All such threats were later declared hoaxes after detailed verification.
Security has been tightened at sensitive locations across Mohali, and police have assured the public that there is no immediate danger.
Public Urged to Remain Calm
Authorities have appealed to citizens, parents, and school authorities to remain calm and cooperate with the investigation. Police cybercrime teams are actively tracing the origin of the emails and examining digital evidence to identify those responsible.
Investigations are ongoing.
