Central University of Punjab Hosts Vice-Chancellors’ Meet to Strengthen Academic and Research Collaboration

The Central University of Punjab, Bathinda (CU Punjab), under the leadership of Vice-Chancellor Prof. Raghavendra P. Tiwari, hosted a high-level meeting on Thursday with Vice-Chancellors of prominent state universities of Punjab to foster academic excellence and enhance collaborative research.

This initiative was undertaken in accordance with the directives of the Hon’ble Governor’s Secretariat, Punjab Raj Bhavan, with the aim of transforming the higher education landscape of Punjab.

The visiting delegation included Prof. Rajeev Sood, Vice-Chancellor, Baba Farid University of Health Sciences (BFUHS), Faridkot; Prof. S.K. Mishra, Vice-Chancellor, Sardar Beant Singh State University (SBSSU), Gurdaspur; and Prof. Gurinder Pal Singh, Acting Vice-Chancellor and Registrar, Maharaja Ranjit Singh Punjab Technical University (MRSPTU), Bathinda, along with senior members from their respective institutions.

The primary objective of the meeting was to explore avenues for inter-university cooperation and establish knowledge-sharing mechanisms to elevate academic standards and research output in the region.

Welcoming the dignitaries, Prof. Raghavendra P. Tiwari expressed gratitude to Shri Gulab Chand Kataria, Hon’ble Governor of Punjab, for giving CU Punjab the opportunity to host this important academic interaction. He delivered a comprehensive presentation on the university’s growth trajectory and key milestones.

Prof. Tiwari highlighted CU Punjab’s notable achievements, including NAAC A+ accreditation, consistent inclusion among the top 100 universities in the NIRF Rankings over the last six years (83rd in 2024), over 3,900 SCOPUS-indexed publications, and more than ₹95 crore in research funding.

He also underscored the university’s successful implementation of NEP 2020 initiatives such as LOCF, ABC framework, internship-embedded programmes, and MOOCs.

The visiting dignitaries commended CU Punjab’s progressive efforts, particularly the establishment of the Consortium of Higher Educational Institutions (CHEI) for Bathinda and North India, and the university’s bilateral and trilateral MoUs/MoAs with reputed institutions.

They appreciated university’s best practices such as travel grants for faculty and scholars, research seed grants for new faculty, and the ‘Earn While You Learn’ initiative aimed at student skill development.

Prof. Tiwari also showcased the university’s vibrant innovation ecosystem through centres such as the I-TBI NIDHI Incubator (CUPRDF), DBT E-YUVA Centre, and the AICTE IDEA Lab. He shared that CU Punjab has been designated as a Deemed Awarding Body by the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship under NEP and NCrF, paving the way for launching new skill-based programmes.

The meeting concluded with a productive discussion on future collaborations, including the launch of joint academic programmes, faculty and student exchange initiatives, and shared access to high-end research infrastructure. Prof. Tiwari extended an open invitation to all participating state universities to make use of CU Punjab’s advanced facilities for mutual growth and societal development.

Prominent attendees included Dr. Ashish Bald (MRSPTU), Mr. Arvind Kumar, Registrar (BFUHS), Dr. Vijay Sharma, Registrar (CU Punjab), Prof. Anjana Munshi, Director R&D, Prof. Monisha Dhiman, Director IQAC, Prof. Sanjeev Thakur, Dean Student Welfare, along with other senior university officials and Deans.
