Food delivery major Zomato has reportedly laid off around 250 employees as part of a restructuring of its customer support operations, according to a report by NDTV Profit.
The latest workforce reduction follows a review of the company’s customer support operating model and organisational requirements.
As part of the restructuring, Zomato has decided to discontinue its Customer Delight operations in Hyderabad and consolidate its remaining in-house customer support operations at a single location in Gurgaon. The move is expected to affect around 240 employees in Hyderabad, the report said.
The company said the restructuring was driven by changes in its customer support model and was not linked to employee performance.
“We have decided to reorganise our operations and rationalise the size of the team,” the company said.
Zomato’s customer support operations have undergone significant changes over the past six months, with specialised external partners taking on a larger share of the workload.
The remaining in-house operations will be consolidated into an integrated team in Gurgaon, allowing closer coordination with the company’s product, technology, analytics and business functions.
According to the report, employees affected by the restructuring will receive their August salary along with four months of severance pay, comprising contractual notice pay and a one-time ex gratia payment.
The company will also extend medical insurance and counselling support to affected employees until March 31, 2027.
As part of its transition assistance, employees will be allowed to retain company-issued laptops and earphones for personal use. Zomato will additionally provide dedicated outplacement support to help those affected explore new employment opportunities.
The latest layoffs come as Zomato continues to streamline its operating model, increasing its reliance on external partners for customer support while maintaining a smaller, consolidated in-house team.
Meanwhile, earlier on Monday, the food delivery company announced a zero-tolerance policy on the sale of analogue dairy products by restaurants listed on its platform. The company said dishes that partners have declared as containing analogue dairy would be delisted immediately following action by food regulator FSSAI against several restaurants.
