Tenure of DSGMC’s Executive Body likely to be extended to 4 years: Inder Mohan Singh

Delhi, July 13, 2022 (Yes Punjab News)
The tenure of the Executive Board of Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee (DSGMC) can be extended to 4 years.

While giving details in this regard, Mr Inder Mohan Singh, former DSGMC member & expert in Delhi Gurdwara Affairs said that as per available information, increase in tenure of the DSGMC’s executive board from the existing 2 years to 4 years is being considered by the government and this amendment can be passed in the ensuing monsoon session of Parliament starting from July 18, 2022 and thereafter it can come into force next month through notification.

He said that by this decision of the government, the tenure of general election and executive board of the DSGMC will be at par. He said that during the tenure of Sarna brothers earlier through Notification issued on September 15, 2008 the term of DSGMC’s executive board was extended from 1 year to 2 years. Mr Inder Mohan Singh said that the acts of blackmailing and horse trading will be stopped by extending the tenure of executive board to 4 years.

While putting a stop on the apprehension that the Office bearers can become dictators and can work on their whim and fancies, Mr Inder Mohan Singh said that sufficient provisions have already been incorporated in the Delhi Sikh Gurdwaras Act 1971 to shunt out such office bearers from their posts in case they commit any violation of rules and regulations.

Mr Inder Mohan Singh said that on the basis of Delhi Vidhan Sabha constituted in the year 1991, the number of Wards in DSGMC should be increased from the existing 46 to 70 (60 elected and 10 Co-opted) and the tenure of the entire Committee should be increased from the existing 4 years to 5 years accordingly.

He made an appeal to government to immediately make necessary amendments in this regard in the Delhi Sikh Gurdwaras Act 1971. He said that the tenue of the prime religious Sikh body i.e. Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee, Sri Amritsar is also 5 years, though there is no change in the 1 years tenure of its executive body.
