Swiss woman found murdered in Delhi, accused arrested

Accused Gurpreet killed Lena Berger with whom he had crossed paths in Switzerland

Delhi Police have made a significant breakthrough in a chilling murder case involving a Swiss woman, whose body was discovered in a disturbing state near a local school in west Delhi. The suspect was apprehended on Saturday, authorities confirmed.

Disturbing Discovery of a Foreign National’s Demise

The case unfolded when Tilak Marg police station received a cryptic call from the police control room on Friday, alerting them to a body found near the wall of an MCD school. The dispatched officers were met with a gruesome sight: a female, later identified as Lena Berger from Switzerland, with her hands and legs bound, indicating foul play.

Given the suspicious circumstances, senior police officials immediately summoned forensic experts and crime scene investigators to the site. “The scene clearly suggested a heinous crime had been committed. We didn’t want to overlook any potential evidence,” a senior officer shared.

Swift Police Action Leads to an Arrest

In less than a day, the rigorous investigation led to the arrest of a man named Gurpreet. Deputy Commissioner of Police (west) Vichitra Veer credited the swift apprehension to effective integration of technical tools and ground intelligence. “Gurpreet is currently undergoing intensive questioning to shed light on the victim’s identity and unravel the motive behind this appalling act,” the DCP explained.

A Friendship Turned Fatal

Preliminary inquiries revealed a sinister backdrop to the crime. Sources close to the investigation shared that Berger and Gurpreet initially met in Switzerland and developed a close bond, with Gurpreet often traveling to visit her. However, jealousy reportedly corroded the friendship. “Gurpreet grew suspicious of Lena potentially seeing someone else and, in a deeply misguided act, plotted to end her life,” the sources disclosed.

Berger, unsuspecting of Gurpreet’s intentions, arrived in India on October 11. Merely five days after her arrival, in a shocking turn of events, her life was brutally snuffed out.

Cover-Up Attempt Gone Awry

Post-murder, Gurpreet attempted to conceal Berger’s body in a car registered in her name. “When decomposition set in and the body began to emit an odour, he panicked, disposing of her body near the school before fleeing,” detailed the sources. The vehicle has been seized by the police as part of the evidence.

The murder has sent shockwaves through the city, raising concerns over the safety of foreign nationals. The case continues to develop as authorities work to piece together the full narrative of what led to this tragic end of a life far from home. (Agency)
