Sukhjinder Randhawa Serves Legal Notice to Dr. Navjot Kaur Sidhu, Seeks Apology

Chandigarh, December 9, 2025 (Yes Punjab News)

Senior Congress leader and Gurdaspur Member of Parliament Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa has served a legal notice on former MLA Dr. Navjot Kaur Sidhu, seeking a public apology within one week for what he described as defamatory and baseless allegations made against him.

Randhawa, who is also the Rajasthan Congress in-charge, warned that failure to issue an unconditional apology and retract the remarks would compel him to initiate criminal defamation proceedings against Dr. Sidhu.

The legal action follows Dr. Sidhu’s recent controversial public statements in which she referred to several senior Congress leaders, including Randhawa, using derogatory terms such as “chor” and “nikamme”. She further alleged that Randhawa, during his tenure as Rajasthan Congress in-charge, had “sold party tickets,” leading to the party’s poor performance in the state elections.

Randhawa had immediately reacted to these allegations and demanded strict disciplinary action against Dr. Sidhu. Subsequently, the Indian National Congress suspended Dr. Navjot Kaur Sidhu from the primary membership of the party for her repeated outbursts against senior leaders, including Punjab Congress chief Amarinder Singh Raja Warring, Leader of Opposition Partap Singh Bajwa, former Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi, and Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa.

In his legal notice, Randhawa categorically rejected all allegations, stating that the statements made by Dr. Sidhu were false, defamatory, and intended to damage his political reputation. He demanded an explicit withdrawal of all remarks along with a written apology within the stipulated time.

The controversy had earlier escalated at the national level after Dr. Sidhu claimed that a “Rs. 500-crore bag” was required to become a Chief Minister, a remark that triggered sharp reactions across the political spectrum and provided ammunition to the Congress party’s opponents.

Even as Dr. Navjot Kaur Sidhu continued to defend her statements through a series of social media posts attacking Raja Warring after her suspension, her husband, former Punjab Congress chief Navjot Singh Sidhu, has so far remained silent on both the controversy and the disciplinary action taken against his wife.
