Sikhs have a distinct and original identity: SGPC Chief Dhami reacts to RSS Chief’s statement

Bhagwat had said, ‘All Indians are Hindus’

The Sikhs are sui generis, a distinct entity, which reflects its originality and uniqueness. These words were expressed by the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) President Advocate Harjinder Singh Dhami while responding to the statement of Rashtriya Swayamsewak Sangh (RSS) Chief Mohan Bhagwat that ‘all Indians are Hindus’.

The SGPC President had reached to participate in the inauguration ceremony of the new Darbar Hall at Gurdwara Gurusar Sahib Kaunke, Jagraon.

On this occasion, Harjinder Singh Dhami said that every day, RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat gives a fatwa (decree) to every person living in India to be a Hindu to satisfy his mind. He said that these people who call India a Hindu nation should read the history of India and especially the Sikhs once.

The SGPC President said that not all people living in India are Hindus.

“The Sikhs are sui generis, a distinct entity, have their own unique character, and no one can amalgamate the same. India does not belong to any one religion. The Sikhs always stand for the country according to the traditions of their faith. The contribution of Sikhs in every crisis cannot be underestimated. I advise the RSS chief to refrain from making controversial statements”, said Harjinder Singh Dhami.

The SGPC President congratulated the Sangat about the newly built Darbar Hall at Gurdwara Gurusar Sahib Kaunke. He said that the SGPC continues to conduct work according to the sentiments of the Sangat in the Gurdwara Sahibs. Accordingly, a new Darbar of Gurdwara Gurusar Sahib Kaunke has been developed. He thanked Baba Narendra Singh and Baba Balwinder Singh Sri Hazur Sahib for performing the Kar Sewa (voluntary service) of developing the Darbar.

Meanwhile, SGPC General Secretary Bhai Gurcharan Singh Grewal said that today is a happy day when Sri Guru Granth Sahib has been enshrined in Darbar Sahib at Gurdwara Sahib after Kar Seva. He said that the Sangat has actively participated in this Sewa and in the future also the necessary services will continue as per the spirit of the Sangat. Bhai Grewal also thanked all the organizations and people who attended the congregation.

Meanwhile, in the newly built Darbar Sahib, the service of enshrining the holy saroop (scripture) of Sri Guru Granth Sahib was performed by the SGPC President Harjinder Singh Dhami and Baba Narinder Singh Hazur Sahib under the leadership of Panj Piaras (five beloved ones). Giani Gurminder Singh, granthi of Sachkhand Sri Harmandir Sahib recited the holy hukamnama (edict).

Also present on this occasion included Baba Avtar Singh Sursingh, Mahankaal Paramjit Singh Ludhiana on behalf of Baba Balbir Singh head of Buddha Dal 96 Crori, Baba Jagtar Singh Tarn Taran, Baba Sukhwinder Singh Bhuri Wale, Baba Gurpreet Singh of Kar Sewa Khadur Sahib, Baba Amir Singh Jawaddi Taksal, SGPC members Kewal Singh Badal, Jagjit Singh Talwandi, Harpal Singh Jallah, and large number of Panthic personalities.
