Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) Chief Treasurer Tarsem Singh committed suicide on Wednesday.
Tarsem Singh, who belonged to Tarn Taran district, had left home for morning walk in the wee hours but jumped from a flyover built on the Upper Doab Canal and died.
The family says that Tarsem Singh had been upset for some time and he must have taken this step due to mental pressure. However, the reason for this mental distress has not come to light yet.
The police have registered a case in this regard and started an investigation.
Efforts are on the trace and fish out the dead body of Tarsem Singh from the canal.
