SGPC condemns killing of two Sikh youths in Uttarakhand, Jagir Kaur seeks strict action against culprits

Amritsar, June 17, 2021 (Yes Punjab News)
The Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) president Bibi Jagir Kaur strongly condemned the killing of two Sikh youths Gurbhej Singh and Gurkirtan Singh residents of Preet Nagar in Rudrapur city area of Uttarakhand state, who have been shot dead and demanded strict action against the culprits.

SGPC president Bibi Jagir Kaur said in a statement that the case has come to light through social media in which two Sikh youths have been killed.

“Killing anyone in this manner is a violation of the law. Such treatment of Sikhs in the country is oppressive to the minorities which cannot be tolerated. We demand from the government of Uttarakhand to give strict punishment to the culprits and ensure the safety of the minorities”, said Bibi Jagir Kaur.

Bibi Jagir Kaur said that in-charge and preachers of Sikh Mission Kashipur in Uttarakhand have been assigned the task to visit the crime spot and submit a report to the office.

Restriction on Jatha has hurt Sikh sentiments: Bibi Jagir Kaur

Meanwhile, SGPC president Bibi Jagir Kaur while reacting to the denial of permission by Pakistan government to the Sikh jatha (group of pilgrims) going to mark Maharaja Ranjit Singh’s death anniversary said that it has hurt the sentiments of the Sikh community.

“If such a decision was to be taken, then the information should have been given before starting the visa process. The governments of India and Pakistan are taking such decisions while ignoring the sentiments of the Sikhs.

Earlier, the Jatha was restricted by the Government of India on the occasion of the centenary of Saka (massacre) Nankana Sahib and now the Government of Pakistan has disappointed the Sangat (devotees) by denying permission to two jathas in a row”, said Bibi Jagir Kaur.

SGPC president said that there is always devotion in the minds of the devotees for the pilgrimage to the holy shrines in Pakistan, so the governments should respect the sentiments of the Sangat.
