Sarna questions disgruntled Akali faction’s push for an alliance with BJP

Chandigarh, July 3, 2024 (Yes Punjab News)

The faction currently trying to destabilise the Shiromani Akali Dal recently attempted to forge a re-alliance with the BJP, Delhi Akali chief Paramjit Singh Sarna revealed Tuesday.

“A senior member of this faction suddenly became a vocal supporter of an alliance with the BJP after initially agreeing to a coalition with the Left and the BSP for the Lok Sabha elections,” Sarna disclosed.

Sarna recalled a February meeting with Left leader Sitaram Yechury where a consensus emerged to ally with the Left and the BSP. However, the senior member, now part of the anti-Akali faction, changed his stance overnight, advocating for a BJP re-alliance, which the party leadership rejected, the Panthak leader said.

With this faction now trying to sabotage the Shiromani Akali Dal, Sarna suggested their motives and affiliations have become clear.EOM
