Former minister Bikram Singh Majithia today challenged Employment Generation minister Charanjit Singh Channi to justify his claim of providing employment to eight lakh youth by releasing data of the same in public domain.
Asking the Employment Generation minister not to do ‘patch work’ on the ‘ghar ghar naukari’ promise on the same lines in which he had listed the achievements of the erstwhile Congress government of 2002-07 in the Vidhan Sabha, Mr Majithia said “you took responsibility for providing government jobs to the youth.
Instead of advertising for government jobs you are now creating websites after two and a half years of your tenure to register unemployed youth. This is proof that you have played with the future of the youth and their parents by reneging on your oath to provide government jobs to one member of each family”.
Asking Mr Channi not to resort to mischief as no new jobs had been created because the Congress government had failed to usher in any new industry in the State, Mr Majithia said the government was behaving like cheats.
“Youth have stopped going to the so called Rozgar Melas and there is an instance in which only one candidate turned up for a Rozgar Mela in Ludhiana”. He said the situation had become such because there were widespread reports of youth being offered jobs below those prescribed for daily wagers.
The Akali leader said all this amounted to loot of the public exchequer in the name of job fairs. “All such looted money should be accounted for and returned to the State treasury”.
Asserting that the Congress government was playing another cruel joke on the youth with announcements of a new website and hiring of tele-callers, Mr Majithia asked the Employment minister to explain why the Congress government had reneged on all promises made to youth.
“Where is the Rs 2,500 per month unemployment dole?” he asked adding the State was paying a heavy price for this betrayal. “Already two highly qualified students, including a student of Budhladha who had cleared the NET examination conducted by the UGC, have committed suicide.
“Is Mr Channi waiting for youth to take the same path as that taken by 2,000 farmers who committed suicide after the Congress government failed to waive of their loans””, he asked adding even family members of the suicide victims were not being given jobs as promised.
The SAD leader said Mr Channi was fond of championing Dalit causes in the media, but had failed Dalits also by failing to protect the rights of scheduled caste students by not making the reservation policy a part of the Rozgar Mela scheme of the Congress government.
Asserting that the Congress government was conducting a sham exercise to befool youth yet again, Mr Majithia said if the government was truly concerned about the plight of the youth it should explain why it was not filling vacancies in government jobs. “Why are retired Patwaris being rehired instead of recruiting youth?
Doesn’t this amount to cheating the youth?” He said the government was still sitting on regularizing 27,000 contractual employees besides refusing to give Dearness Allowance to employees or allowing the Pay Commission to release its report. “All this points out the government does not have any intention of fulfilling the promises made to the youth”.
Mr Majithia said the SAD would not take this discrimination against the youth lying down. “We will create a public movement against the fraud perpetrated upon the youth of Punjab by the Congress government and force it to fulfill the promises made to them”. EOM
