Rajya Sabha MP Sanjeev Arora inducted as Member of Parliamentary Standing Committee on Health

It is a matter of proud for whole of the State that Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Member Parliament (Rajya Sabha) from Punjab Sanjeev Arora has been inducted as a Member to Committee on Health and Family Welfare reconstituted by the Parliament.

Re-constitution of the Department-related Parliamentary Standing Committees (2022-2023) have been done on 4th October. Under this, various committees such as Committee on Education, Women, Children, Youth and Sports, Committee on Personnel, Public Grievances, Law and Justice, and Committee on Home Affairs, Committee on Industry and Committee on Health and Family Welfare have been reconstituted.

Committee on Health and Family Welfare has been reconstituted under the Chairmanship of Bhubaneswar Kalita. Ten Rajya Sabha Members, including Sanjeev Arora have been included in this committee “I myself opted to get inducted into Committee on Health and Family Welfare”, said Arora in a statement here today.

Arora thanked the `AAP’ which, on his request, recommended his name for the committee and also thanked the Chairman of the Rajya Sabha Shri Jagdeep Dhankhar Ji, Vice-President of India, for acceding to the request and inducting him as a Member to Committee on Health and Family Welfare. Arora said he strongly believed that a lot of work needed to be done in the field of health care not only in Punjab but across the country.

Further, Arora said that the country needs some immediate reforms as far as health sector is concerned, adding that there is a dire need to make affordable healthcare available for all the countrymen, especially for the indoor patients in the hospitals. He pointed out that some immediate reforms are need of the hour as there is an alarming rise in dreaded diseases such as Cancer across the country.

Speaking about the significance and importance of Standing committees, Arora said in the Indian Parliament, a Standing committee is a committee consisting of MPs. It is a permanent and regular committee which is constituted from time to time according to the provisions of an Act of Parliament or Rules of Procedure and Conduct of Business.

Adding, he said the functions of each of the standing committees include to consider the demands for grants of the concerned ministries/ departments before they are discussed and voted in the Lok Sabha. Its report should not suggest anything of the nature of cut motions. These committees ae also meant to examine bills pertaining to the concerned ministries/departments, annual reports of ministries/departments and also to consider national basic long-term policy documents presented to the Houses.

Arora has already been working a lot in the health care sector for providing some relief to the suffering humanity. He has been running Krishna Pran Breast Cancer Charitable Trust, which is named after his parents. This Trust has provided free treatment to around 170 cancer patients. He is also a Member of Governing Board of DMCH, Ludhiana for around 23 years.

He is also actively attending various meetings related to the health reforms. Recently, he attended Annual International Meeting organized by the Global Surgery India Hub based at Christian Medical College & Hospital (CMCH), Ludhiana. In this meeting, he had stressed on the need of making available affordable surgeries for the patients in the country.
